Pendle Hill
Dry stone field wall on the steep walking route
A lovely weekend of walling at the base of Pendle Hill. Good chats with passers-by some of whom had walling experience.
Though still standing the original wall had become unsafe due to general deterioration and its proximity to the popular walking route meant it needed some attention. So two charities; DSWA & PHLP, both with environmental interests, commissioned the repair as part of their outreach programme.
The weather was great and many persons on their walks and runs stopped to speak to us about all manner of things, but mostly centred around the beautiful landscape and its dry stone wall & hedge boundaries.
As is often the case with field walls the fallen stones get buried in the earth and some just seem to go missing. The solution to this came in the form of the farmer who offered to move stone using his quad-bike. Most appreciated, thank you.
