Boulder Dry Stone Retaining Wall

Another major rebuild using a mix of stone which was intended for two different purposes, namely

  • Rubble stone for dry stone walling
  • Dressed stone for mortared construction

The shapes and sizes of the dressed stone made it clear from the start that the stone had been used for the following purposes in years gone by:

  • Face stone
  • Quoins
  • Gate post

As is common with such large walls, the usual challenges were encountered by the dry stone waller; excessive soil inside the wall, tree roots growing through foundations and the size and destiny of the gritsone which makes it very heavy.

All in all, this was another great project for awesome clients at a very beautiful riverside location, so enjoyed and learnt a lot along the way.
