Five terraced retaining dry stone walls

The brief was to restore dry stone wall garden terraces while increasing the height.

Built using a mix of the existing stone and client-sourced reclaimed sandstone. The original walls had had enough interaction with tree roots and time & while romantic and rather beautiful, it was time for restoration.

Very steep garden with only one place to receive / pile stone - yes, the very bottom of the garden. Path equally steep and multi-stepped, so not suitable of mechanised moving tools (traditional or otherwise )all walling stone brought up by hand. Who doesn’t love an outdoor stone gym?

The project comprised of five double-faced/skinned random coursed dry stone wall terraces; some concave and others convex and using a mix of curved and corner ends.

It was a joy crafting these terraces and the challenges made the progress very satisfying.

So, a big shoutout to our clients for commissioning this project.
